About the Studio
Where is your studio located?
Paulette Jackson’s Ceramics Studio is based in Springfield Lakes, Queensland. The address will be provided upon booking.
Do you have parking available?
Yes, there is free on-street parking near the studio.
Do I need to book ahead?
Yes. All classes and private lessons require advance booking to ensure space, materials, and individual attention for each student.
Classes & Lessons
What types of classes do you offer?
Paulette teaches beginner-friendly wheel-throwing classes at Bellbird Arts Centre and offers private one-on-one lessons in her Springfield Lakes studio.
I’m a complete beginner. Will I be okay in class?
Yes! Paulette’s teaching style is hands-on, encouraging, and designed especially for beginners. You’ll learn how to centre clay, throw basic forms, and progress at your own pace.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes. Private lessons for beginners are available by appointment in the Springfield Lakes studio. These sessions provide personalised guidance tailored to your interests and skill level.
Do you offer pottery classes for children?
At this time, classes are designed for adults (ages 18+). Younger children may not have the hand strength or coordination required for wheel-throwing.
What’s included in the class fee?
All clay, tools, and firings are included in the class fee unless otherwise stated. Aprons are provided, but it’s best to wear clothes you don’t mind getting a bit messy.
Firing & Materials
Can I bring in my own clay or glazes?
For consistency and safety, the studio provides all approved clay and glazes. External materials can only be used with prior approval.
How long does it take for pieces to be fired?
Depending on drying time and kiln schedule, pieces are usually ready within 3–4 weeks after your final class.
What happens if my piece cracks or breaks in the kiln?
While every care is taken, kiln firing is an unpredictable process and occasional breakages can occur. Unfortunately, Paulette cannot take responsibility for any losses due to firing outcomes.
Studio Safety & Etiquette
Do I need prior experience to use the studio?
No experience is needed for beginner classes or private lessons — Paulette will guide you step by step.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty, and closed-toe shoes. Long hair should be tied back, and jewellery removed before throwing. It also helps to have nails trimmed as long nails can impede throwing.
Do you provide aprons or towels?
Aprons and towels are available to use in the studio. You’re welcome to bring your own towel if you prefer.
How do I clean up after class?
Students are expected to clean their work area, tools, and wheel after each session. Paulette will show you the proper clean-up process during your first class.
